Howdy is a course for children starting English in primary school. Its graded, hands-on approach takes students from a true-beginner level to an elementary level. Its balanced literacy… programme exposes children to language before they actually produce it through flexible tasks related to the outside world.
Engaging and purposeful activities provide students with basic competence in listening and reading comprehension. It also gives them tools to achieve speaking literacy and a personalised writing process, while promoting effective communication. The syllabus is developed around motivating topics related to the children’s world and the course offers students the opportunity to take an active role in the learning process. Cross-curricular links have been taken into consideration both in the course book and the Reading and Writing/ Language Choice booklets, featuring games and activities for the consolidation of structures and vocabulary. Additional practice through plenty of songs, poems and stories are provided in the audio CD.
The Teacher’s Handbook contains an easy-to-follow guide for each unit, including objectives, target language, assessment and follow-up activities, a games bank and useful tips and ideas for teaching the four skills. Photocopiable Extra-practice and I Can do it! worksheets and tests for each unit are also provided. Annual Planning, which offers unit contents and objectives, and a Class Organiser with suggested teaching sequences and extra activities complete the full range of teaching resources for the series.
