Ready to Read is Ready to Learn:
Oral Activities for the Preschool and Early Primary English Classroom

In this 30-hour course, we will develop more age-and-stage- appropriate ways of preparing preschool and young learners to be ready to read and learn in English. This course will give you lots of oral activities for the preschool and early English classroom which not only provide English language learning but will also help your students develop the early literacy skills that are essential for successful developing literacy across the curriculum.

You will leave the course with a reading pack, bibliography, learning tools, classroom posters, a list of specifi c early literacy-based web sites, technology tools and your own teaching portfolio fi lled with activities and material to help you to teach English in the preschool and early primary classroom.

We will work together to:

1. create an interactive, oral print-rich classroom that potentiates literacy development and language use
   
2. explore how various songs, chants, stories and games can help prepare very young learners to be ready to read and ready to learn.
   
3. discover specifi c literacy-based websites on the Internet
   
4. incorporate easy-to-use technology in our language classroom
5. set up classroom routines for fuss-free classroom management
   
6. produce evaluation instruments that are student-centered, easy to manage and provide us with information about how each student is progressing,
   
7. connect with the family in order to increase opportunities for language use and involve caregivers in the English language learning process.
